Chinese-speaking attorney James Z. Collins helps domestic violence survivors navigate divorce, custody, and annulment cases through his ATASK partnership.

I hope that my work with ATASK helps victims feel more secure and gives them a sense of agency as they confront the challenges the U.S. legal system can pose.”

— James Z. Collins, Founder of JZ Collins Law

BRIGHTON, MA, UNITED STATES, September 4, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — James Z. Collins has represented survivors of domestic violence through his pro bono partnership with the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence (ATASK) since 2026. The Chinese-speaking family law attorney and founder of JZ Collins Law takes on divorce, custody, and annulment cases for survivors across Massachusetts, building on earlier pro bono work with Kids in Need of Support (KIND) and Catholic Charities of America.

Collins is Chinese-American, and that background shapes how he sees his cases. Domestic violence and coercive control often go overlooked in Asian communities. Cultural pressure keeps many victims silent, and language barriers make it harder still for them to seek help. Collins has seen this up close, and it shows in how he handles every case ATASK refers to him.

In one recent matter, Collins represented an ATASK client facing an annulment lawsuit filed by her former abuser, litigation she and ATASK characterized as an attempt to continue harassing her after she left the relationship. Collins successfully defended against the claim, allowing his client to move forward without further legal entanglement with her former partner.

Collins has also helped ATASK clients reunite with children after periods of separation and negotiate favorable property divisions, giving survivors a stronger financial footing as they rebuild their lives.

“I hope that my work with ATASK helps victims feel more secure and gives them a sense of agency as they confront the challenges the U.S. legal system can pose,” Collins said. “All of my successes have only happened because of the support of my family, friends, and community, and I believe I should do my best to give back.”

The ATASK partnership is one part of a broader pro bono practice at JZ Collins Law. Collins has advised local churches on tax matters, represented children through Kids in Need of Support in Special Immigrant Juvenile Status proceedings, and guided more than a dozen nonprofit organizations through the process of obtaining and maintaining tax-exempt status.

Collins founded JZ Collins Law to serve Massachusetts families and business owners, with a focus on divorce, prenuptial agreements, child custody, and business transactions. He began his legal career as a transactional tax associate at a multinational law firm in Boston, working on public and private market transactions ranging from tens of millions to several billion dollars, before shifting his focus to family law and community-based legal support.
As the child of a Chinese immigrant, Collins brings a personal understanding of the barriers immigrant families face when navigating the U.S. legal system. This experience informs both his family law practice and his pro bono work with organizations like ATASK.
