Colleague AI, University of Washington Partner With AiEDU and School Districts on NSF-funded Educator AI Initiative

Collaboration Marks National Effort to Lead Educator AI Training in AI Competency, Tool Proficiency, Pedagogy, and Ethics

SEATTLE, WA, UNITED STATES, August 10, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Colleague AI, the research-backed K-12 AI infrastructure platform developed with the AmplifyLearn.AI national AI research center at the University of Washington College of Education, today announced a growing coalition of partners working alongside the company on a National Science Foundation-funded initiative to bring AI training and lesson-planning resources to middle-grade mathematics teachers nationwide.

The initiative brings together Colleague AI, AmplifyLearn.ai, the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, aiEDU — a national nonprofit focused on preparing students and educators for an AI-integrated world — Minnesota Generative AI Alliance for Education, as well as school districts and regional educational service centers nationwide. Together, the partners are working to extend AI competency training and instructional resources to educators beyond their own classrooms and campuses with a goal of conducting 240+ training sessions and reaching 4,800 educators nationwide.

The company is looking to expand the partner base to include more school districts wishing to participate in the grant as well as more education service centers, local education agencies, or regional service centers. Solicitations will be released shortly on AmplifyLearn.AI and Colleague AI websites.
Ten education service centers and regional service centers have participated in a similar effort funded by prior federal grant programs, reflecting demand from intermediary organizations that support teacher and school administrators training across the nation. Current partners also include additional universities and professional learning organizations who have strong interest in cultivating the nation’s leadership on responsible and effective implementation of AI in school systems to prepare K-12 students for post-secondary and workforce success.

The collaboration is carried out under a continuing NSF grant (award # 2405110) from the Discovery Research PreK-12 program (NSF 23-596), and will focus on:
– In-person or synchronous AI training sessions
– Turn-key ready AI learning materials that cater to educator’s busy schedule
– Train the trainers model to sustain innovations within schools and districts
– AI Certified Educator (AICE) digital badging, offered by the University of Washington
– Regional events and networking opportunities for comprehensive national infrastructure of learning and talent development

The partnership builds on a body of federally funded research underpinning Colleague AI’s platform, and reflects a growing evidence that points to the importance of the use AI in the classroom that aligns with effective pedagogical practices and the ethical considerations at stake.
