The world’s first blood pressure health system named as a top Medical & Healthcare invention
NEW YORK, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Today, TIME reveals its annual list of the Best Inventions, which features 300 extraordinary innovations changing our lives including Hilo Core, the world’s first blood pressure health system.

Hilo Core, which launched in the U.S. in July 2026, helps people move beyond isolated blood pressure readings to better understand their patterns over time. Its recognition among TIME’s Best Inventions in the Medical & Healthcare category underscores Hilo’s mission to make blood pressure awareness an accessible part of everyday life.
Nearly half of U.S. adults have high blood pressure, a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke, according to the CDC. Traditional methods rely on occasional cuff-based readings, providing only limited snapshots in time. Hilo’s new approach transforms blood pressure monitoring into a long-term, data-driven experience and creates a new category between traditional cuff-based monitors and consumer wearables.
“Being recognized among TIME’s Best Inventions is an incredible honor and a powerful affirmation of our mission,” said Stefan Petzinger, CEO of Hilo by Aktiia. “Hilo’s goal is to help control blood pressure better by giving visibility into patterns that occasional readings can miss. This empowers people to better understand how their daily choices influence their blood pressure, encouraging them to take a more active role in managing the ‘silent killer’ and ultimately leading healthier, happier lives. This recognition celebrates decades of research and brings greater attention to the role blood pressure awareness can play in helping people take a more active role in their long-term health.”
Hilo Core combines a lightweight wearable band, mobile app and FDA-cleared upper-arm cuff. Following calibration, the band captures up to 35 measurements per day, including overnight, while the app brings long-term blood pressure trends together with sleep, steps and heart rate. The cuff provides reference measurements that users can save and share with their healthcare provider for more comprehensive and productive visits.
Hilo Core is available at Hilo.com and Amazon, priced at $89.99 for the hardware plus a $149.99 annual subscription, totaling $239.98 for the first year, excluding tax. HSA and FSA payment options are also available.
To compile this year’s list, TIME solicited nominations from TIME editors and correspondents around the world, and through an online application process, paying special attention to growing fields—such as health care and AI. TIME then evaluated each contender on a number of key factors, including originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact.
