Sierra’s understanding of these challenges comes directly from her own time as a teacher. She spent two and a half years working in the classroom before transitioning away from direct instruction. During that period, she witnessed firsthand the demands placed on educators and the potential for burnout when teachers do not have adequate support. Those experiences shaped her vision for Innovative Leadership and encouraged her to rethink how professional development can serve educators.

Rather than focusing solely on what teachers need to do differently, Sierra believes professional development should also consider what educators need in order to feel capable, motivated, and connected to their work. Her approach centers on confidence-building, practical development, mentorship, and helping teachers reconnect with their purpose.

Her academic background has continued to strengthen this mission. Sierra holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, along with minors in Special Education and Geography, as well as a master’s degree in Educational Studies. She is currently completing her Doctor of Education in Applied Leadership at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, with graduation expected in December. Her doctoral studies are providing another layer of knowledge and perspective as she develops her leadership philosophy and expands her work with educators.

For Sierra, pursuing continued education has also been a personal journey of learning to recognize possibilities that may initially seem out of reach. She credits several professors with encouraging her to pursue advanced degrees at moments when she was uncertain whether she was ready. Their belief in her played an important role in helping her take the next step.

At one point, Sierra was encouraged to pursue her master’s degree even though she questioned whether the timing was right. Later, when she began considering the possibility of earning a doctorate sooner than expected, one of her professors contacted her about a new Doctor of Education program in Applied Leadership. The professor encouraged her to apply if she could manage the program alongside her responsibilities.

Those experiences reinforced a lesson that continues to influence Sierra’s approach: ideas that initially seem “crazy” can sometimes lead to meaningful opportunities. She believes people should be willing to pursue the ideas that excite them, even when those ideas feel uncertain or overly ambitious at first.

That philosophy extends to the advice she offers young women entering the education and professional development fields. Sierra encourages them to remain committed when the work becomes difficult, recognizing that some of the most meaningful growth can happen during challenging periods. Obstacles, in her view, can become opportunities to learn, adapt, develop resilience, and gain greater clarity about one’s purpose.

Persistence and consistency are central to that philosophy. Sierra believes progress does not always happen quickly, and the path toward professional growth is not always straightforward. Continuing forward, especially when circumstances become challenging, can help young professionals develop both confidence and capability.

Through Innovative Leadership, Sierra is also engaging with some of the broader challenges currently facing education. She believes there is significant discussion surrounding the need to improve education, including conversations about additional financial support and resources. However, she has observed a gap between discussion and meaningful action.

For Sierra, one of the challenges is identifying the individuals and organizations that are actively taking positive steps rather than simply talking about the problems facing educators. Her work is therefore grounded in action and in finding practical ways to support teachers.

She also sees a need for additional research into professional development that directly supports teachers. Sierra has found that existing research does not always address the specific questions she is exploring. Because approaches centered on supporting teachers through professional development are still developing, she believes there is an opportunity for the field to expand its research and understanding.

Her perspective is informed by the belief that supporting teachers ultimately matters to the broader educational environment. By helping educators develop greater confidence and stronger professional tools, professional development can become more closely connected to the realities of teaching.

Outside of her professional and academic commitments, Sierra’s life is centered around her family. She is a mother to three young boys, ages four, one, and five months, and motherhood is an important part of how she approaches her career and daily responsibilities. She balances entrepreneurship with family life by working during nap times, on the road, and between family responsibilities, while setting aside focused time in her office for program development, outreach, and virtual collaboration.

She also supports her husband in their family farming operations, adding another dimension to an already busy schedule. Alongside education and entrepreneurship, Sierra maintains a strong interest in health and wellness and is currently working toward personal trainer and nutrition coach certifications.

Her commitment to wellness reflects the broader importance she places on balance and personal development. Sierra’s professional interests may span education, leadership, mentorship, entrepreneurship, and wellness, but each area connects to her larger belief in growth and purposeful living.

At the center of everything Sierra does are three priorities: faith, family, and friends.
